November 2003

Good morning everyone,

·         I hope that you have all had a good half term holiday and are fully refreshed and ready for some exciting music making over the next six weeks.

·         Make sure that the 15th of December is in your diaries as this is the date of our annual Christmas concert at the Royal Centre. Rehearsals for this event will be starting now and it will become clear to everyone that there will be a wide variety of groups performing. There will be more information on this very soon.

·         We are going to start up a student council at Music School similar to the ones that are in place in many of your day schools. Over the next few weeks we will be asking students if they would like to be involved in this new venture. It will give you, the student, the opportunity to influence the way that we do things on Saturday mornings. Watch this space for more news!

·         A new ensemble is starting today. A senior chamber group will start to rehearse today at 9.00 in the mobile classroom next to the office. There may well be a clash with senior choir as they are both  running at the same time but we are looking into ways to accommodate both of these groups.

·         Over the next few weeks we are going to look at the way our choir rehearses. There may be a few changes but we are not going to do anything until the new Student Council is formed. One of the Councils first jobs will be to find out what it is that you want from choir. Can I however make a plea, especially to the parents, that with the Christmas concert fast approaching it is essential that we try to start our rehearsals on time. Choir starts at 9.00 so could you please ensure that your child arrives here at 8.50 so that we can make a prompt start.

·         Please wear your student badge. It is for your safety that the decision was made to get these badges. We have many visitors here at Ellis Guilford that are not Music School pupils and we really do need to know who is who. If you have lost your badge come to the office and speak to Kate.

·          Does anyone have a copy of the Evening Post edition that included pictures of Music School. I was away last week and missed it.

Richard Barnett

Health and Safety

Ellis Guilford School is a very open site and with the added complications of the building work some simple rules should be observed. I have listed the most important ones below.

•  Always wear your ID badge

•  Stay in your activity. Please do NOT wander around the site.

•  Make sure that you register either at 9.00 or if you start at 10.00 do so in your first session.

•  Go to the Café at break time where you will be able to get a newsletter.

•  Do NOT leave the site early without permission.

•  Keep well away from any building area and heavy machinery.

A parent of two of our ex pupils has some music to give away. It is all piano music and it would only be suitable for someone who is an advanced pianist. If you are interested either contact Kate at College Street or e-mail direct to:

ruth.filsak@ntlworld.com

The music includes the following:

Chopin:waltzes, etudes, nocturnes, etc;
Schubert: Impromptus Op 90
