The Nottingham Primary Parliament
Date: Monday 9th July 2007
Time: 9:00am – 3:30pm
Topic of debate: Worth the Risk or Better Safe than Sorry?
On Monday 9th July around 60 young people from over 30 City Primary Schools will gather in the council Chamber of Nottingham City council to take part in this year’s Primary Parliament.
For the seventh year running the event will be run by the Nottingham City Council Children’s Services. It provides a unique opportunity for young people to have their say in a public forum, on issues that affect them.
Linking with 'Nottinghamshire Prepared Week', this year’s topic for debate is "Worth the Risk or Better Safe than Sorry?"
The delegates will be looking at the concept of 'risk' in the context of personal and public risk, risk assessment and emergency planning. Issues such as the 'Nanny State', the 'role of litigation', safer schools and conflicting messages are likely to feature strongly.
The event will last for a full day and the Lord Mayor of Nottingham will officially open the Parliament at 9:00am. In the past we have had local MPs, Councillors and Senior Officers dropping into the proceedings, which has added considerable gravitas and credibility to our Nottingham Primary Parliament. |
